MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Sunbury Press has released Dr. M. Ernest Marshall’s World War II naval history “That Night at Surigao: Life on a Battleship at War.”

tnas_fcAbout the Book:
That Night at Surigao is a blend of thousands of pages of primary source documentation from records of three battleships, a 3-year long diary kept by a Navy Lieutenant, and memoirs. It collates ships’ records with diary and memoir to create a ‘diary-within-a-diary’, matching the history of the battleships with the history of several individuals. It reduces the naval war in the Pacific to the level of the individual and gives the reader a close idea of what life was like aboard a battleship at war. It follows all the major battles from Tarawa to Okinawa. Also included in the back of the book is the book “USS Virginia Crosses the Equator Again.”

About the Author:
M. Ernest Marshall, M.D. of Lynchburg, Virginia, is a retired Full Professor of Medicine in Hematology/Oncology who has published widely within the medical and scientific literature, and has served on a number of Editorial Review Boards for medical and scientific publications. He is a member of the U. S. Naval Institute, the Society for Military History, the Oral History Association, the USS West Virginia Association, and the Lynchburg Historical Foundation. This is his first nonfiction, non-medical manuscript.
That Night at Surigao has been honored by the New England Book Festival.
